Macallum New Energy Limited is an Australian gas exploration company with exploration permits in the Northern Valleys region. Obligations to the State of Western Australia require us to acquire a small low impact 2D seismic survey around the town of Muchea. The seismic survey contractor and survey vehicles will be working in the area in April this year.
To identify if an area is prospective for natural gas (or not), seismic surveys are used to investigate the subsurface geological formations. Seismic surveys are the most common method used to image the subsurface of the earth and the technology has been used in Australia, including the Northern Valleys region since the late 1940s.
The Condor 2D seismic survey will use existing roads, firebreaks and tracks on private land with no need for any clearing of vegetation. The survey will take approximately 2 weeks in total with individual properties impacted for just 1 or 2 days. The survey uses a weight drop device on a tracked agricultural vehicle to deliver the source signal which is recorded by hand-size geophone receivers.
